Features

Overview: The Nanoleaf Matter Ultra Slim 4" Recessed Downlight can produce over 16-million colors and many shades of white (cool to warm). The fixture is Thread and Matter-enabled, which allows you to control it within a wide variety of platforms. It also works via Bluetooth. Installation requires a 4-1/4" diameter ceiling cutout. You can control the light with a hardwired wall switch, the Nanoleaf app on your smartphone, or your favorite voice assistant.

Note: This package includes a single 4" Recessed Downlight. The light is also available in a 4-pack.

Installation: The recessed downlight consists of two parts, the light fixture and the LED driver box, which are connected together via an 11" cable. The cable has connectors that let you separate the light and driver box during installation. The LED driver box connects to your home\’s electrical wiring with three wires (live, ground, neutral). The box has two keyhole slots for securing it to a flat surface. The light fixture fits into the ceiling cutout, and is held firmly in place with two spring-loaded tabs.

Wireless Control: The Ultra Slim 4" Recessed Downlight can be paired to your smartphone (iOS or Android) or desktop (Windows or Mac) via Bluetooth. With the free Nanoleaf app, you can set up and control the light\’s basic functions. For best results, up to five lights can be paired via Bluetooth. The downlight is also compatible with the Thread mesh network (IEEE 802.15.4 MAC/PHY) with its speed and extended range. Thread requires a Thread Border Router, such as an Apple HomePod mini, Google Nest Hub (2nd gen), or Amazon Echo (4th gen). Thread also works with other Nanoleaf Essentials bulbs and lightstrips. Up to 20 devices can be paired via Thread.

Matter: Matter is a new global Smart Home standard which is designed to make it easier for devices to connect with each other, even if they aren\’t on the same wireless platform. Many of the devices designed by Apple, Google, Amazon, and others are now working with Matter. Nanoleaf Essentials LED downlights, bulbs, and lightstrips offer more features and better performance when connected via Matter over Thread. Features include Smart Home Ecosystem Integration, Voice Control, Schedules, and Remote Access when you\’re away from home. Connecting by Matter over Thread requires a Matter-compatible smart home hub and a Thread Border Router. The following Matter-compatible devices double as a Thread Border Router:

  • Apple: Apple HomePod mini, Apple HomePod (2nd gen), Apple TV 4K (2nd + 3rd gen Wi-Fi + Ethernet 128GB model)
  • Google: Nest Wi-Fi Pro (Wi-Fi 6E), Nest Hub (2nd gen), Nest Hub Max
  • Amazon: Echo (4th gen)
  • Samsung: SmartThings Station, SmartThings 2018 Hub (IM6001-V3P01), and Aeotec Smart Home Hub.

Nanoleaf App: The Nanoleaf app lets you design, set up, manage, and control all of your Nanoleaf lights from one place. By simply scanning your light\’s pairing code, you can set up each light in seconds. Control of your lights can be as simple as turning individual lights on and off, or, within a full in-depth custom setup, you can create schedules and other automatic functions. Lights can be controlled one-at-a-time or placed in groups for joint control. You can select color Scenes for different occasions, such as party time, movie night, dining, bedtime, or waking up. If you want to control your lights using voice commands, the app lets you set up your lights with Amazon Alexa, Google Assistant, Samsung SmartThings, or Siri (Apple Home). The free Nanoleaf app is available from the Apple App Store for iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch, and requires iOS 14.0 or later. It is also compatible with Android devices running version 9.0 and up, and is available from Google Play. The Nanoleaf desktop app works with Windows 10 or 11, and macOS 12 and later.
