Overview: The Philips Hue Motion Sensor can automatically turn your Hue-compatible smart lights on when it detects movement. Powered by two AAA batteries (included), the Motion Sensor can also detect daylight so the lights don\’t turn on until you need them. The Sensor can be placed on a tabletop, or mounted on a wall or ceiling. The sensor requires the Hue Bridge (sold separately) to operate within the Hue Personal Wireless Lighting System. You can configure the settings for the sensor and all of your lights in the Philips Hue app. The Motion Sensor is recommended for indoor use only.

Motion Sensor: The Hue Motion Sensor uses Passive Infrared (PIR) technology to detect motion within a range of 5 meters (16.4 feet), and at an angle of 100°. The sensor has a simple 3/4" cylindrical mount that attaches to your wall or ceiling with a single screw. The sensor attaches magnetically and can tilt up to 30° in all directions to let you adjust the coverage area. You can also set the motion sensor on a flat surface, such as a tabletop or shelf. When motion is detected, the sensor sends a trigger signal to the Hue Bridge via Zigbee Wireless Protocol (IEEE 802.15.4), while the Bridge communicates with the Philips Hue App on your smartphone or tablet via Wi-Fi. The app will automatically turn on the lights you desire, as programmed in the app.

Daylight Sensor: The Motion Sensor has an integrated daylight sensor that determines when there is still enough daylight in the room so the lights don\’t turn on until you need them. If the motion sensor is triggered during the day, there may be enough light in the room to prevent additional lights from turning on. If the room is still too dark, you can adjust the light sensitivity of the sensor, as needed, in the Philips Hue app. You can also use the app to configure the light intensity, when triggered, depending upon the time of day (bright lights during the daytime, gentle light in the evening).

Battery Powered: The Philips Hue Motion Sensor operates on two AAA alkaline batteries. Batteries are expected to last approximately 2 years, depending upon how often motion is detected. Changing the batteries is simple; accessing the battery compartment requires removing one screw.

App Compatibility: The Philips Hue bridge and app give you full home control of your Philips Hue lights. When the Motion Sensor is programmed through the app, it can turn on lights throughout your home when the sensor is triggered. The app lets you set timers and schedules, control lights away from home, set wake up and go to sleep routines, and sync the lights to your music, movies, and video games. Additional Hue products can be added to the system, up to a maximum of 50 bulbs and 12 Hue accessories that can be controlled by a single bridge. The app is available for Apple devices running iOS 13.0 or later, or for Android devices with version 8.0 and up.
