Active Soundbar Speaker: The JBL Bar 700\’s active soundbar speaker features dedicated Front Left, Front Right, and Center channels for excellent stereo imaging and vocal clarity. Equipped with a total of 6 drivers, the JBL 700 delivers 290 watts of power for room-filling sound. Each channel employs a 0.75" dome tweeter and 1.8125" x 3.5" cone driver for crisp highs and detailed midrange. The dedicated center channel provides clearer dialog while enjoying movie soundtracks. The tweeters of the left and right front channels are loaded angled waveguides in order to deliver a much wider soundstage and disperse sound into the room with greater efficiency.

  • MultiBeam Technology: JBL\’s proprietary MultiBeam technology enables the soundbar system to create virtual height effects without needing physical height speakers, generating an immersive "3D-like" experience. The stereo front channels of the soundbar work together to simulate virtual overhead effects for Dolby Atmos.
  • PureVoice Dialog Enhancement: By taking advantage of the PureVoice dialogue enhancement technology, you can easily hear and better understand speech from your movies and TV shows. JBL PureVoice technology uses digital signal processing (DSP) to detect human speech from within a TV or movie program and extracts the voice content for analysis and improvement. It dynamically enhances the dialogue loudness for crystal-clear intelligibility without aaffecting other sounds. This enhancement happens automatically to ensure you never miss a word of dialog in a movie, even when the surround effects are at their peak.
  • Smart Mode: With Smart Mode enabled, you can enjoy TV programs with richer sound effects. For TV programs such as news and weather forecasts, you can reduce sound effects by disabling the smart mode and switching to the Standard Mode.

Note: By default, the PureVoice feature is enabled on HDMI and Optical digital sources. The PureVoice is disabled if you stream music over USB, Bluetooth, Google Cast, Alexa, or AirPlay.

Battery Powered Rear Speakers: The JBL Bar 700 comes with two wireless rear speakers that let you enjoy true wireless surround sound with a cinematic 5.1 ch experience. Each rear speaker houses a 1.8125" x 3.5" cone driver. These rear speakers are battery powered and feature built-in rechargeable batteries that provide up to 10 hours of playing time. The battery powered wireless rear speakers charge by plugging them into the sides of the soundbar (it takes approximately 3 hours to fully charge each speaker). There is also a USB-C connector on the speaker that allows you to charge it using a USB-C to USB cable and a USB/AC power source (all sold separately). You can adjust the volume level of the surround speakers independently from the overall system\’s volume.

  • The active soundbar speaker measures 36.6876\” wide without the battery powered rear speakers attached and the side endcaps installed. The soundbar measure\’s 46.25\” wide with the battery powered rear speakers attached for charging and the side endcaps removed. Make sure you have enough room on either side of the soundbar speaker (at least 7\”) to plug-in and un-plug the rear speakers.
  • The JBL Bar 700\’s WiFi and Bluetooth connectivity will turn off and the product will automatically enter into power saving mode when the detachable surround speakers are out of battery. It is recommended you dock and charge the rear speakers whenever they are not in use or battery is low (a flashing red light on rear speakers and \”Dock Spkr. Batt Low\” displaying on the soundbar will indicate that the batteries are low).

Wireless Powered Sub: The JBL Bar 700\’s wireless powered sub features a down-firing 10\” woofer in a bass reflex enclosure with a rear-firing port. A built-in 300 watt amplifier is used to drive the 10\” woofer and deliver deep, impactful bass with low distortion. Because the powered sub is wireless, it puts no unsightly cables between the soundbar and subwoofer (still requires a AC power cord connection). You can adjust the bass level of the powered sub from the included IR remote.

Dolby Atmos: Dolby Atmos creates powerful, immersive audio with sound that comes from all directions (including overhead) to fill your home cinema with astonishing clarity, richness, detail, and depth. Dolby Atmos brings to life a movie\’s soundtrack with sound that flows all around you in three-dimensional space to completely immerse you in the action, heightening your cinematic experience.

  • Virtual Dolby Atmos: Because the JBL Bar 700 is not equipped with dedicated height speakers, it uses Virtual Dolby Atmos to  reproduce the audio height dimensions from a movie or TV show, turning your living space into a home theater.
  • Dolby Surround Upmixer: The soundbar\’s Dolby Surround Upmixer expands the legacy channel-based audio of Dolby Digital (including 5.1 and 7.1 content) in order to provide an immersive 3D Atmos experience.

Note: The JBL Bar 700 does not support DTS:X.

Sound Calibration: JBL Bar 700 is designed with an embedded microphone for sound calibration to ensure you get the best sound possible, no matter what kind of room you are in, without the hassle. The system collects acoustic information, measuring when sound is reflected to the microphone. Each reflection arrives at the microphone at different times, and all the reflections are then analyzed. The reflections are reconstructed to estimate the surround sound performance in your specific space. The sound calibration uses a set of filters to correct the loudspeaker EQ to ensure the sound performance is consistent, providing great surround sound, no matter the shape or size of room you are in. There are also manual audio settings –

  • Audio Sync: With the audio sync function set to on, you can synchronize audio and video to make sure that no delay is heard from your video content.
  • Rear Level: You can manually adjust the level (Low-Mid-High-Mute) of the rear speakers for increased or decreased surround effects.
  • Bass Level: You can manually adjust the bass level (1 to 5) of the wireless powered sub to increase or decrease its low-frequency output.

Note: The built-in microphone is only used for audio calibration. It does not support built-in voice control. However, optional voice control enabled Alexa & Google Assistant speakers (sold separate) can be utilized with the JBL Bar 700.

HDMI In/Out: The JBL Bar 700 is equipped with one HDMI input and one HDMI ARC output. Both, the HDMI input and output support the HDMI 2.0 specification with ultra high-definition 4K video pass-through, HDCP 2.3 compatibility, HDR (High Dynamic Range), and eARC (Enhanced Audio Return Channel).

  • 4K Pass-Through: The Bar 700 lets you maintain 4K quality from source to screen by allowing 4K video to \”pass-through\” and be displayed on a 4K TV or projector, without compromising image quality. Giving you the pure 4K experience makes this soundbar the perfect partner for 4K-capable TVs and Ultra-HD Blu-ray players. 480i, 480p, 720p, 1080i, and 1080p video signal are also supported.
  • HDCP 2.3: HDCP 2.3 is supported by both the HDMI input and output. HDCP 2.3 is short for \”High bandwidth Digital Content Protection\” and is used for 4K video copyright protection for compatibility with Ultra HD Blu-ray players and 4K Satellite/Cable providers.

HDR (High Dynamic Range): HDR delivers a much higher level of contrast between light and dark to produce an image that is more realistic and closer to what the content creator imagined. This increased contrast reveals the subtle nuances of the image, from detailed blacks and shadows to the brightest whites and colors, plus greater depth. This system supports HDR10 and Dolby Vision.

  • HDR 10: HDR 10 is an open standard and currently the most popular HDR format on the market. It uses static metadata at the start of a movie to tell the receiver and your TV that the video content is encoded using HDR.
  • Dolby Vision: Unlike HDR 10 which contains static metadata, Dolby Vision uses dynamic metadata technology which sets individual color and brightness levels for each and every scene. Dolby works directly with filmmakers at major Hollywood studios to create superior HDR video masters of blockbuster movies.

Note: The JBL Bar 700 is not compatible with HDR10+, HLG (Hybrid-Log Gamma), and other HDR formats.

eARC (Enhanced Audio Return Channel): The soundbar\’s HDMI output supports eARC, which allows the audio to be sent from your compatible TV to the soundbar system through the same HDMI cable already being used to send audio and video to your TV. This eliminates the need for extra cables connected to your television. eARC offers support for uncompressed audio formats like Dolby TrueHD and Dolby Atmos – where standard ARC was limited to Dolby Digital, Dolby Digital Plus, and PCM.

  • Your TV will also need to support eARC or ARC for this feature to work. Many newer TVs support eARC, while most older TVs only support ARC.
  • The ARC-enabled HDMI input on older TVs will only pass 2ch PCM from devices connected to the TV via HDMI or analog.
  • The JBL Bar 700 does not support DTS, DTS-HD, DTS:X, and other DTS audio formats.

Optical Digital Input: In addition to HDMI connectivity, the JBL Bar 700 is outfitted with an optical (toslink) digital input that supports 2ch PCM and Dolby Digital (up to 5.1ch). The digital optical output terminals of many newer flat-panel TVs only send an audio signal in 5.1ch when receiving Dolby Digital surround sound from the TV\’s built-in tuner, network connection, or connected USB device; and will output only 2ch stereo from sources connected to the TV via HDMI, or RCA (like your Blue-ray/DVD player or satellite/cable box).

  • The Optical digital input does not support Dolby TrueHD or Dolby Atmos.
  • The JBL Bar 700 is not equipped with an analog audio input.

Bluetooth Audio Streaming: The JBL Bar 700 is equipped with built-in Bluetooth 5.0 with support for wireless audio streaming (A2DP 1.2) and control (AVRCP 1.5). You\’ll be able to wirelessly stream stored music, music apps, and other audio content from your Bluetooth-enabled source device (such as your smartphone, tablet, laptop, computer, or TV) to the soundbar. The included remote can be used to control basic playback functions such as Play/Pause and Previous/Next Track. You will still use your Bluetooth source for advanced playback control and to view song/artist/album info. You can pair multiple Bluetooth devices with the JBL Bar 700, but only one device can be used for playback at a time. The soundbar has a wireless Bluetooth range of approximately 33\’.

  • When streaming audio from your TV via Bluetooth to the soundbar, the JBL Bar 700 is limited to 2ch stereo (not compatible with Dolby Digital or Dolby Atmos).
  • The JBL Bar 700 is a Bluetooth receiver only. It does not feature a Bluetooth transmitter and cannot output sound to a set of Bluetooth headphones.
  • The JBL Bar 700 does not support Bluetooth hands-free communication for making and answering phone calls.

Note: Your Bluetooth device is retained as a paired device when the soundbar goes into standby mode. Next time you switch to the Bluetooth source, the soundbar reconnects the last paired device automatically.

Network & USB Integration

Wired or Wireless Network Connectivity: To enjoy AirPlay 2 and Google Cast, you will need to connect the JBL Bar 700 to your home network and ISP (internet service provider). The active soundbar speaker system is equipped with dual-band 2.4/5GHZ WiFi (802.11ax) for a high-performance wireless network connection. There is also a rear-panel Ethernet (RJ45) LAN jack, if you prefer a hardwired network connection.

You cannot stream stored content on an Apple iOS device using Google Cast. If you\’re on your laptop or computer, you can also cast any music streaming website through the Chrome web browser to the speaker.
  • Multiroom Audio: The JBL Bar 700 delivers multiroom audio capability by adding additional JBL Link Series and other Google Cast speakers (sold separately ) to create a whole house audio experience. You can play the same Google Cast compatible music app (like Tidal, Spotify, or Pandora) on all speakers or groups of speakers in different rooms of your home. You\’ll be able control the multiroom audio system from the Google Home app on your Apple iOS or Android device, or using the built-in Google Assistant and your voice.
  • Optional Voice Control: With a Google Home voice-activated speaker (sold separately), you can use your voice to control playback of compatible Google Cast music apps. You\’ll be able to playback MP3 (16-48kHz/80-320kbps) music files stored on a USB MSC device (formatted in FAT32) through the JBL soundbar system. • Active Soundbar Speaker: The active soundbar speaker can be simply mounted on a tabletop such as a TV stand, shelf, or other flat surface. It can also be wall mounted using the included brackets and hardware. The soundbar should be centered under or over the TV. It should be positioned a minimum of 2" above or below the TV, and between 8.25\’ to 9.8125\’ from your main seated listening position.
  • Battery Powered Rear Speakers: The battery-powered rear speakers can be placed on stands or shelves, or even wall-mounted using the included brackets or optional articulating brackets that are sold separately (there is a 4mm threaded insert on the back of each speaker). The rear speakers should be positioned behind and to the sides of the main listening area. The speakers should be positioned 3\’-4.6\’ off the floor.
